NEWBORN GUNK IN EYES
Newborns often experience a common and temporary eye condition known as newborn gunk in eyes. This phenomenon is a result of a thick, sticky substance called mucus or conjunctival crusts forming in the eyes of newborns. It is a normal part of the body's immune response and healing process.
The cause of this condition is related to the newborn's underdeveloped immune system and the natural process of eye adjustment during the first few days of life. The eyes may become irritated due to exposure to various factors such as air, light, and the birthing process itself. As a result, the body produces excess mucus as a protective mechanism to shield and soothe the delicate eye area.
